Blockwright Academy — Terms of Use

The short version

• The root course is free and stays free.
• Paid branches are bought once and kept permanently. There is no subscription.
• Refunds are handled by hand, because on-chain payment cannot be reversed automatically. Section 9.
• A certificate proves you finished the work. It is not a diploma and it is not a job.

01What these terms cover

The website and the education platform. The Privacy Policy forms part of them. The mobile application has its own documents.

02Who can use it

You may use the service if you are at least 16 years old, or older where your own law requires it, and are not barred by any law that applies to you. You are responsible for complying with your own local law, including any restriction on cryptocurrency where you live.

03What you can expect from us

• The root course stays free. Not free for now — free.
• What you buy stays yours. A branch is bought once and does not expire.
• Honest status. We publish what is finished and what is not, with numbers rather than promises.
• No advertising, ever, and no sale of your data.
• Notice before material change, as described in section 12 of the Privacy Policy.

We do not promise uninterrupted availability. See section 11.

04Your commitments to us

• 1You will not break the law with the service, or help anyone else do so.
• 2You will not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of it, or to another person's profile, progress or certificates.
• 3You will not interfere with its operation, including by automated load.
• 4You will not use the automated-check environment to attack anything, ours or anyone else's.
• 5You will not impersonate us or another user, or claim an endorsement you do not have.
• 6You will not resell or republish paid material, or help others avoid paying for it.
• 7You will not scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for other people, or use its content to train a model you then present as a competing course.

05Permissions you give us

• Over your submissions: you keep ownership of everything you write. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, run and display it only so far as is needed to operate the platform — to run your code against the checks, to show you your own progress, and to display what you chose to make public. This licence ends when you delete the submission, except for copies in ordinary backups.
• Over your profile: permission to show publicly what you chose to make public.
• Over nothing else. We claim no right to reuse your work in our own material, to train a model on it, or to license it to anyone.

06Your profile and your certificates

A profile is public by design; that is its purpose. Your blockchain address is your identifier, and section 6 of the Privacy Policy explains what that implies. Choose a nickname, and an address, accordingly.

A certificate records that you completed a defined body of work whose exercises were checked automatically, and anyone can verify it. It is not an accredited qualification, a diploma, a licence to practise, or a guarantee of employment, income or of passing an interview. We promise no outcome from taking the course.

We may revoke a certificate obtained by circumventing the checks.

07Free and paid material

The root course is free. Further branches of the skill tree are sold individually. There is no subscription and no recurring charge of any kind.

08Payment (not yet in operation)

• A branch is bought once and remains available to you permanently.
• Payment is made in cryptocurrency, on-chain, directly. We take no card details and no payment processor is involved.
• On-chain payments are irreversible. Check the amount and the address before you send. Sending on the wrong network can destroy the funds, and we cannot recover them.
• Prices may change for future purchases. Anything you already own is unaffected.

09Refunds (not yet in operation)

Because payment is on-chain, nothing can be refunded automatically. Refunds are processed by hand, and the arrangement is this:

• 1Write to hi@blockwright.dev within 14 days of purchase, from or naming the address that paid.
• 2Tell us which branch, and, if you like, why — you do not have to give a reason inside the 14 days.
• 3We send the amount back on-chain to the paying address, less the network fee of the return transaction, normally within 7 days of agreeing the refund.
• 4Refunded material stops being available to you.

Two things to know. We may decline a refund where the branch has been completed in full and a certificate issued, since at that point the thing bought has been consumed. And where the consumer law of your own country gives you a stronger right than this section, that law applies instead — nothing here reduces it.

If a payment fails, arrives short, or lands on the wrong network, write to us. We will do what can be done, but section 8 means some of those situations cannot be fixed by anyone.

10Our content and our name

• Our material — lessons, text, exercises, illustrations, the design of the site — belongs to us. You may use it to learn, quote it with attribution and link to it. You may not resell it, republish it wholesale, or present it as your own course.
• Our source code is closed and stays ours. Nothing in this section grants any right to it.
• The name Blockwright, the wordmark and the logo are ours. You may refer to us by name; you may not use our marks in a way suggesting we endorse or are associated with you.

11Availability, changes and termination

We are building this in public: features will appear, change, and occasionally be removed. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.

If we discontinue paid material you own, we will give reasonable notice and a way to keep or export it.

You may stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your profile. We may suspend or terminate access for a breach of section 4; where the breach is neither serious nor deliberate, we will tell you what the problem is first and give you a chance to fix it. If we terminate your access without cause, we refund paid material you can no longer reach.

12Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information on it is accurate or current. Nothing on the site is financial, investment, tax or legal advice.

Some countries do not allow certain warranties to be excluded. Where that is so, this section applies as far as the law permits and no further, and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

13Limits on liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, opportunity, data or anticipated savings, for indirect or consequential loss of any kind, or for the acts and failures of third parties.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event — which, for a user of the free material, is zero.

14Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms, your unlawful use of the service, or your infringement of someone else's rights.

15Disputes and applicable law

The service is offered worldwide, by an individual rather than a company. We do not impose a choice of foreign law or a distant forum on you: doing that to a consumer is unenforceable in much of the world and unfair everywhere.

If you have a complaint, write to legal@blockwright.dev first — most things are settled that way. If a dispute cannot be settled, it is governed by the mandatory law of the country where you live and may be brought before the courts of that country. Any mandatory consumer protection you enjoy at home applies regardless of anything in this document.

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
